Passing on a family tradition

Tonight I decided it was time to introduce the boys to a treat of my childhood - "Bread, butter and syrup".  I remember enjoying this as a child and would beg my mom to fix it for dessert or a snack.  It goes way back in our family - I really have no idea but I know my mom had it as a child and it probably came from my grandmother and great-grandmother and the depression era.  This was a way to have something sweet cheaply and with what was on hand.  .  You take a spoonful of butter or margarine and cover it with light corn syrup.  Then you mix it up on your plate until smooth - then dip pieces of bread in and enjoy!!  Now I know some of you are seriously questioning my taste buds right now, but don't knock it until you try it!!  The boys loved it!!  Of course my boys love to dip anything - even better if it is sweet!
