From the mouth of babes
When you become a parent you quickly realize that your children are just another way God speaks to YOUR sin. This evening we went to the christian bookstore to get the "Hide 'Em In Your Heart" CDs. Carter has not stopped asking to watch this video that he got for his birthday and after just a few viewings is singing the songs non-stop. Of course his lyrics aren't dead on, but his heart is in the right place. So I thought I'd get the CDs so we could listen to the songs. I put the first CD in which is not the volume we have but Carter wanted to hear the different ones. One of the songs was about trusting God when we are afraid. I took the opportunity to tie this to Carter's fear of thunderstorms (only evening storms, morning ones are a-ok). I suggested that next time he got scared of a thunderstorm he could pray and remember to trust God. Here is the conversation.
Mommy : Next time there is a thunderstorm we need to remember to trust God and pray.
Carter: That's a good idea Mommy!
Mommy: We know that God loves us and we have to trust that He will keep us safe.
Pause
Carter: Sometimes I forget that Mommy.
Mommy: Me too buddy.
So sweet! He does use them to give us gentle reminders of truth, doesn't He?
