Being Sick Stinks!

Caleb and I have a cold. I know how miserable I feel so I can imagine Caleb feels the same way. He has been crying and fussing and throwing fits all day. Bless his heart - his nose is running, his eyes are red and watery, he just wants to be held. He definitely has a stronger temperament than Carter did at his age. He is either very happy or very not. I had to wipe his nose and change his diaper after he woke up from his nap and he threw a fit for over ten minutes. Crying, head thrown back, arched back, nothing would soothe him. He screamed if I put him down, he screamed if I held him, pushing me away and twisting his body. He was UPSET!! Carter was always pacified by either Sam or I holding him - but he also never threw fits at this age. He had separation anxiety but never got so angry I couldn't calm him down. The past 2 weeks I have seen as much of the bottom of Caleb's chin as his head and upper body are launched backwards as I have seen of his smiling face! He has attitude!! And watch out if you try and take something away from him that he is playing with! Some people say an easy going baby is a difficult toddler and a difficult baby makes a content toddler. Well what about an easy going baby that becomes difficult? No, he isn't difficult yet - just has definite ideas about what he wants. He is already going over to the magazines on the coffee table, reaching to touch one and looking at me with a huge grin on his face - he KNOWS! Boy this parenting thing is tough!

I have written about how Carter has been really into Caleb recently and how cute it is. Well now it is just annoying! I must have said at least 100 times today, "Carter, stop messing with Caleb.", "Carter, leave Caleb alone.", "Carter, don't put that on Caleb's head." This evening he was giddy over Caleb. Of course for the most part Caleb loves the attention of big brother. I was giving Carter a bath and Caleb was trying to pull up on the bathtub - he can't pull up to standing but he pulls up to his knees. Carter thought that was the funniest thing - Caleb peeking over the edge of the bathtub. He would scream with laughter and Caleb would giggle and fall down on his tush. Then pull right back up. When it was time to read books before bed, I put Caleb down on the floor as he just tries to eat the book. After a couple of sentences Carter said, "I don't want read book, I need to play with Caleb." I wanted him to calm down before bed so I made him stay on the couch and read with me. He kept pushing the book to the side so he could see what Caleb was doing. Eventually Caleb ended up on the couch with us and Carter insisted that he needed to hold Caleb. Caleb must have agreed because he rolled off my lap onto Carter, laid his head on Carter's chest and started sucking his fingers. I think it was the sweetest thing I have ever seen. Oh to have had a camera beside me! Of course that only lasted all of 5 seconds and Caleb was wiggling to get down.

I love my boys but they are exhausting!!
